Comment: | These three collections are presumably from the type area of the Eli Formation. All the specimens are molds and casts and are badly distorted for the most part. In addition, low-grade metamorphism has produced chloritic minerals along the shear surfaces; no original shell material is preserved. However, each collection contains Cyrtospirifer and two of the collections (25900-10 and 25900-11) contain a large rhynchonelloid brachiopod that is almost certainly Gastrodetoechia. In addition, all the collections contain indeterminate echinodermal debris and rounded objects that may have been bivalved shells but are completely unidentifiable. The age of these collections is Late Devonian and almost certainly middle Famennian, if the Gastrodetoechia is correctly identified. |
