Brief statement of problem and remarks (from collector):
A new locality of unmetamorphosed conglomerate was found in the Eagle A-1 quadrangle at the end of the 1965 field season. The conglomerate rests unconformable on metamorphic rocks (Birch Creek Schist); covers an area of about ¾ sq. mi.; is probably a few hundred ft. thick; and is about 17 miles east of the nearest known locality of sedimentary rocks on Napoleon Creek. In the last few years several separate localities of Cretaceous and Tertiary sedimentary rocks have been found in the Eagle and Tanacross Quads. and we wish to determine the age and geological relationships of these isolated exposures. To date our only information on age has come from plant remains, mostly pollen and spores. (See reports by Tschudy, Leopold, and Wolfe MG-64-2; MG-62-1; A-5-29; O-64-13D; MG-64-4 and samples submitted in Dec. 1964 not yet reported on.) The conglomerate at this new locality may be the same age as that on Napoleon Creek.
