Brief statement of problem and remarks (from collector):
Plant fossils from section of continental Tertiary rocks. Wish to correlate with Tertiary succession in Matanuska valley, Kenai coal field, and marine Tertiary rocks of Yakataga area.

Fossils submitted for use of R.W. Brown in connection with his proposed trip to Alaska this coming summer. [from Wahrhaftig transmittal sheet dated May 2, 1955]

Exact age and environmental significance of Cantwell formation. In particular evidence from fossils to confirm or deny that small patch of Cantwell? resting on granite from which 54-AWg-256 came, correlates with the rest of the Cantwell.

Collection submitted for use of R.W. Brown in his trip to Alaska this summer. [from another transmittal sheet of Wahrhaftig dated May 2, 1955]

About 100 feet above base of Cantwell(?) formation. The main question to be answered by this collection is, "Is this likely to be from the same formation as the above two collections, and if not, can we assert that it is Cretaceous, at any rate?" this collection from an isolated body of sandstone and conglomerate, on the strike of a syncline in the Cantwell, and similar to it lithologically. It rests unconformable on a granodiorite batholith, one of several in the Alaska Range, which have previously been reported to be post-Cantwell. Nowhere else in the Alaska Range has the Cantwell formation been observed in contact with granitic stocks.]
