This report deals with one (1) sample collected from an 80 foot high river bluff on Wolf Creek. Sample C was collected 45 feet above the base. The abundance of this ostracode coupled with the beetle and plant material indicates that this is probably a pond environment. We use the term pond to imply a body of water of any size that is shallow enough throughout its extent that it could support plant life anywhere within its boundaries. Ponds can be bigger than lakes, but lakes have both littoral and limnetic regions, ponds have only littoral regions. This usage applies to previous reports.
C. rectangulata implies cold climate and short summers. It also implies freshwater probably with salinities below .5 to 1 ppt, with calcium bicarbonate chemistries. The pH can and usually does vary over broad ranges on daily cycles, typically with value of 7.0 to 9.5.
