Summary

This report concerns 7 collections about which you inquired by telephone last month. Three other collecctions (79ADt200, unit 2, 79ADt200, unit 3 and 79ADt208) apparently were never received in Washington.

All these collections are from medium grey slightly micaceous, dolomitic, ferruginous siltstone, characteristic of parts of the Joe Creek Member of the Echooka Fm. Elements of the early Permian fauna of the lower Joe Creek occur in all the collections. Particularly noteworthy are the STRAPAROLLUS (EUOMPHALUS) ALASKENSIS in 206 and the ammonoids in 204. Mac Gordon indicates an age range of late Pennsylvanian through early Permian for these two genera.

Please send precise locality data so that this material can be added to our reference collection from the Brooks Range.
