*** Brief statement of problem and remarks (from collector):Sample were collected from a thin limestone lens in pillow basalts that border the southern edge of the Brooks Range near Bettles. The basalts are part of an ophiliolite sequence which, on stratigrphic evidence, we can date no more closely than post Late Devonian - pre-Cretaceous. The structural setting is complex and it is possible that the limestone is allochthonous. however, field evidence ssuggests that the limestone was deposited in place between the flows.
