Locality: Field No. 92ATr9X
Description: Howard Pass C-3. Lat. 68o 38'15" N., Long. 157o 32'35" W. Sample from nodular, concretionary chert mass (probable interval of unit lPMap that is too small to show on the geologic map). (description from Dover et al., 2004, p. 54 (Table 2))
Location: Alaska Quadrangle: Howard Pass C-3
Lat.: 68o38'15 " Long.: 157o32'35 "

Report by: Jim Dover , Irv L. Tailleur , Julie A. Dumoulin
Age: Late Paleozoic
Formation: Akmalik Chert
Comment:Age: Late Paleozoic. (While the forms are poorly preserved and are not identifiable to the species level, the presence of ladder-like forms and bladed spines are consistent with late Paleozoic faunas and probably pre-Permian faunas).

Shown as locality 25 on Sheet 2; map unit: lPMap

Occurrence(s)
No. Group Name Qty Notes
1 Radiolarian Etched surfaces show the rock is radiolarian-rich--spines and spicules abundant; large pieces of clear quartz are common. Some matrix fragments exhibit veins(?) that intersect at several angles; interstices are filled with crystalline(?) quartz radiolarians identified by C.D. Blome and K.M. Reed
2 Radiolarian One short, grooved primary spine
3 Radiolarian Rare short fragments of very robust spicules
4 Radiolarian Fragments of "ladders," both coarse and regular pores
5 Radiolarian Bladed spines that have spinules on the blade edges
6 Radiolarian Several poorly preserved fragments of ?latentifistulid centers (suggesting Paronaella impella Group forms)
7 Radiolarian Fragments of spicules that have a curved, flattened double head, like a long curved double-bladed axe
