Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1966 (02/23)
This report covers brachiopods and molluscs from 6 collections including somewhat over one hundred specimens, most of them in collection 65ABe24. There is no question that these are either late Middle or Late Devonian age. However, precised dating again eludes us and some of the suggested correlations may cause stratigraphic difficulties. There is nothing that can be definitely be called Middle Devonian, the most probable collection being 65ABe7A. Two collections are likely early Late Devonian (65ABe21 and 65ABe24) and one appears to be even younger, possibly Famennian (65ABe7D). Where do we go from here?

Age: Middle Devonian-Frasnian (Middle Devonian or early Late Devonian (Frasnian))
Comment:Although badly distorted, these shells can be reasonably assigned either a Middle or early Late Devonian age. I prefer the latter because of the associated corals (see report by Oliver dated Dec. 23, 1965).

Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1965 (12/23)
Collections submitted with request dated August 27, 1965 are covered in this report. The six small collections are listed first, and discussed as a unit. The one large collection (65ABe21; 7469-SD) is listed and discussed separately. Specimens in all collections are poorly preserved, either recrystallized or crushed, and identifications are uncertain, in many cases, because of this.

Age: Devonian
Comment:Collection 65ABe21 (USGS 7469-SD) is a much larger collection and contains a larger variety of corals including 2 or more species of rugose corals. No Amphipora or amphiporoids were seen. Identifications are as follows:

There is probably a larger variety of rugose corals than indicated by the two generic names but all are crushed and there is no virtue in crawling too far out on a limb with a list of guessess. The rugose corals are strongly suggestive of a Devonian age. Macgeea suggests early Late Devonian (Frasnian). I feel that Devonian is safe but that Frasnian can only be a working hypothesis until more data are gathered.

Age: Givetian-Frasnian (late Givetian - early Frasnian)
Comment:The acetic acid residue yielded two poorly preserved conodonts. These are probably Polygnathus ex gr. varca Stauffer and suggests a late Middle or early Upper Devonian age (late Givetian or early Frasnian). This age determination agrees with brachiopods and corals previously reported by Dutro and Oliver.
