This report covers tow collections from the chert-pebble grits at this locality. Both collections contain fragmental brachiopods of Permian age. Bryozoans from these collections, reported by Karklins (SEE report dated 2/6/79) are consistent with the Permian age designation. |

Comment: | This report concerns bryozoans from two collections. General morphological appearance and association of bryozoans is similar to a degree in both collections and suggests a Late Paleozoic age for these deposits. Girtyporids are known only from deposits of Permian age in the USSR. Presence of girtyporids in the USA has been inferred, but they have not been described. Specimens that are assigned to girtyporids in this report are porrly preserved and thus their taxonomic position and biostratigraphic significance is uncertain at present. STENOPORELLA (?) sp. in coll. 27369-PC is a new species and may represent a new genus which is closely related to STENOPORELLA. STREBLOTRYPA is a typical genus in deposits of Pennsylvanian-Permian age. The above taxa, except for STENOPORELLA (?) sp., and others that are listed below do not contradict a Permian age designation for these deposits. Bryozoan specimens of approximately 8 genera of 8 families are identified from 17 thin sections for this report. The identification of taxa is somewhat tentative for lack of reference material and because of poor preservation of most specimens. (11 thin sections) |
