Brief statement of problem and remarks (from collector):
Group 1 (65AMm10f and 65AMm12F) Samples are from cutbanks on the Koyukuk River 20-25 miles downstream from Hughes, Alaska. They are somewhat tuffaceous coquinoid limestones overlain and underlain by andesitic flows and volcaniclastic rocks of Neocomian age. Other collections made in these rocks are (P&S nos) Mes. Loc. 24685-24687, M2066-2075, M1775-M1788. Collection 65AMm10F is from the same locality as Loc. 53APa433 (Mes. Loc. 24686) and collection 65AMm12F is about 100 yds. upstream from Loc. 53APa436 (Mes. Loc. 24687).

Group 2 (65AMm69, 65AMm71, 65AMm72). Specimens are from an andesitic volcaniclastic sequence including volcanic conglomerate, tuff, tuffaceous graywacke, (Sta. 65AMm69 & 71) and mudstone (Sta. 65AMm72). Shell fragments are moderately abundant in the coarser-grained volcaniclastic rocks but recognizable megafossils are sparse. They seem to be confined to narrow zones associated with volcanic conglomerate composed of subangular volcanic rock fragments about 1 cm in diameter in a light green tuffaceous matrix. At the mudstone locality, recognizable megafossils are more abundant and better preserved than in the coarser-grained rocks but are generally smaller. These volcaniclastic rocks are from the same Lower Cretaceous (Neocomian) andesitic volcanic unit as collections from the Hughes and Melozitna quads. submitted by W.W. Patton, Jr., A.R. Tagg, and Miller over the last several years. (P&S Nos. Mes. Loc. 24 685; M2066-2078, M1775-1788). The collection from the mudstone unit is from the same locality as the collection made by Patton in 1955 (Sta. 55APa25, field sta. P-80, shipment no. A-55-14), and identified by Ralph Implay as containing Aucella sublaevisKeyserling.

Localities are 28 mi S., 20 deg. E from the town of Kobuk, Alaska.

User Note module to be added
65AMm11F (Mesozoic loc. M2963A) , Melozitna , No description given in E&R report or in transmittal form from T.P. Miller, probably Melozitna quad.
Poorly preserved specimens of Buchia sublaevis
65AMm11F (Mesozoic loc. M2963B) , Melozitna , No description given in E&R report or in transmittal form from T.P. Miller, presumbably from Melozitna quad. Note by RBB - the field locality number was originally given in E&R as 65AMm12F, but was scratched out in pencil, and stated to by 11F.
Poorly preserved specimens of Buchia sublaevis
65AMm10F (Mesozoic loc. M2962) , Hughes , No description provided in E&R report on in transmittal sheet of T.P. Miller, but the latter has index map indicating that the locality is on the west bank of the Koyukuk River, above point where Matthews Slough enters the Koyukuk at the SW end of Huggins Island.
