The following report concerns fossils from south-central Alaska, Tanana A-1 and Livengood B-3 and B-6 quadrangles. All of the fossils appear to be of Cretaceous age, although several collections are either barren or contain only indeterminable fragments.

Brief statement of problem and remarks (from collector):
Best fossils found in Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles. Found in conglomerate in upper third of quartzite sequence. Quartzite sequenc is vasal unit of Cretaceous rocks in area. (from transmittal sheet of Bond Taber, dated 11/24/59, includes inset map showing location of 59ATb720)

Fossils from south fork of Quail Creek in Livengood B-6 quadrangle. Rocks probably equivalent to graywacke in Tanana A-1 quadrangle where no fossils are found. Collections by Martin and Prindle in area assigned to Upper Cretaceous. 8900 and 7AP278 U.S.G.S. Bull. 872, p. 167. (from Taber's transmittal sheet of 11/24/59, includes inset map showing location of 59AHp761, 59AHp763.

This fossil was found at the side of the road (U.S. 97) at mile 62.92. I would like to know as much as possible about the stratigraphic and geographic range of this specimen. It is possible that this fossil will be of value in determination of the relation between placer deposits of the general area and underlying deposits in the general area and underlying bedrock, and determination as to whether rocks are Devonian as previously mapped or Cretaceous as suspected. (from Hopkins transmittal sheet dated 11/24/59, includes inset map showing location of collection 59AHp2001)
