Report prepared by: Imlay, Ralph W.
Date: 12/15/1958

Most of the fossils in the collections submitted belong to the pelecypod Buchia, (formerly referred to Aucella which has been ruled invalid). This genus began in the late Oxfordian stage of the Late Jurassic and survived into the Hauterivian stage of the Early Cretaceous. In the West Coast of the United States it is not known above the Valanginian. ....

It is strange that you did not find any specimens of B. okensis or B. subokensis Pavlow, which is common at the base of the Cretaceous in northern Alaska, and has been found also, in southeastern Alaska at Slocum Arm on the west side of Chichagof Island (Mes. loc. 10147). Your collections lacked also, any specimens of Buchia piochii (Gabb) which is present in several older collections (Mes. locs. 8851, 10095, 10169) obtained at the east end of the point separating the arms of Pybus bay. These specimens are not distorted as are all the others from Admiralty Island.

A similar sequence of species of Buchia has been found by J.A. Jeletzky on the west coast of Vancouver Island (Geological Survey of Canada Paper 50-77, p. 30 to 43). Until he publishes illustrations, comparisons will be difficult.

The fossils are listed by localities as follows:
