Date: 12/02/1961

[in consultation with W. A. Oliver, Jr. and E. L. Yochelson] This report covers 16 collections, more than 300 specimens, from Devonian rocks in the southern Brooks Range. Most of the collections are of Late Devonian age but at least two from the Skajit limestone may be Middle Devonian. The age significance of the assemblages in the several rock units, discussed in detail in an earlier report (see report on shipment A-60-24, dated 12/11/61), is unchanged by the study of this material.

In direct answer to the questions asked: 1) there are no demonstrable Silurian fossils from the Skajit; 2) the limestone from which Be 555D and Rr 584 came is Devonian, probably Frasnian, in age; and 3) the calcareous sandstone yielding Be 619 is of Late Devonian age, probably Frasnian. If Be 619 is actually from the Kanayut and the slate-sandstone unit in as early as late Frasnian time.

Most of the corals in this shipment have been reported on earlier by W. A. Oliver, Jr. (see report of 2/10/61) and his identifications are included in the lists for completeness.
