Comment: | 5 kg of rock was processed (92 g of +20 mesh insoluble residue) The lobes of the basal cavity are corroded making it nearly impossible to distinguish which of two possible species of PANDORINELLINA this specimen belongs. The lower margin appear to be more reminiscent of P. EXPANSA. AGE: SEROTINUS-COSTATUS COSTATUS Zones (latest Emsian to earliest Eifelian) or DENGLERI-Lower ASYMMETRICUS Zones (latest Givetian-earliest Frasnian). Probably SEROTINUS-COSTATUS COSTATUS Zones (see attached chart from Klapper & Johnson, 1980, showing conodont zones of the Lower and Middle Devonian). CAI=5 indicating host rock reached 300 to 350o C. Corals from this same sample indicate Silurian-Devonian age and brachiopods from 60 feet lower in section (USGS colln. 10818-SD) indicate a Middle-Late Devonian age.
