Report on Referred Fossils

This report is long (1.5 years) overdue, but I have been exceedingly busy writing papers, responding to reviewers and editors comments and preparing talks. I am finally returning to a partial E&R mode and your collections were at the top of the list. |

Comment: | Age: Silurian-Permian; many samples from the Kuna Fm. of the Brooks Range allochthon in the western-most Killik River quadrangle and across the Howard Pass quadrangle produce relatively long-ranging conodonts of Osagean to Meramecian age. At the type section of the Kuna in the Howard Pass quadrangle, conodonts from 9 m above the base of the type section indicate the lower part of the anchoralis-latus Zone (late Tournaisian) and conodonts from 6 m below the contact with the Etivluk indicate a late Tournaisian or early Visean age (Dumoulin, Harris, and Schmidt, in press, ICAM volume) Biofacies: Indeterminate (too few conodonts) Thin section description by Julie A. Dumoulin. CAI = 1.5-2 Heavy-mineral concentrate includes very minor fluorite and barite(?). |
