Comment: | Localites 57AL99 and 99b could be of any age as old as Late Paleozoic. However, the Ostrea at these localities is identical with a species collected by E.M. Kindle at Pybus Bay (Mes. loc. 3310)(See Martin, 1926, USGS Bull. 776, p. 378) from 45 feet of limestone underlying beds containing Buchia piochii (Gabb) (Mes. loc. 3309). Now Mes. loc. 3310 contains a large pelecypod that possibly belongs to the genus Trichites. This genus occurs mostly in the Jurassic and Cretaceous but, according to Norman Silberling, occurs also in the Upper Triassic of Nevada. |
