Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1962 (09/07)
Report by: Ellis L. Yochelson
Referred by: Joseph M. Hoare
Age: Mississippian
Comment:No age significance can be attached to this collection. The gastropods are what one would expect in the Mississippian of this facies.

[Note by R.B. Blodgett, the coordinates given for this locality suggest that it is more likely of Ordovician age, based on our current knowledge of the regional geology]

Occurrence(s)
No. Group Name Qty Notes
1 Snails Euomphalid? gastropod indet.
2 Snails High spired gastropod, indet.

Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1962 (01/29)
Report prepared by W.A. Oliver, Jr. (with J.T. Dutro, Jr., as noted)
Report by: William A. Oliver , Jr. , J. Thomas Dutro , Jr.
Referred by: Joseph M. Hoare
Age: Silurian
Comment:This is Silurian in age because Catenipora does not appear in post-Silurian rocks, while Syringopora and Thamnopora are not known in pre-Silurian rocks.

[Note by R.B. Blodgett: On the basis of current geologic knowledge of this area, this locality is now considered to be Late Ordovician]

[Another note by R.B. Blodgett: This locality (USGS loc. 6449-SD, USGS number given subsequent to E&R report) is discussed in some detail in Oliver et al., 1975, USGS Prof. Paper 823-B, p. 25]
