Comment:The fossils from loc. 72ADt-377 (Mes. loc. 30266) on the Canning River, west bank opposite Shublik Island; lat. 69o 24' N., long. 146o 10' W.; consist of Arkelloceras and a nondescript Inoceramus. The genus Arkelloceras, described by Frebold in 1957 (Geol. Survey Canada Bull. 41, p. 9-11, includes the specimens from the Canning River that I described in 1955 (Prof. Paper 274-D, p. 91, pl. 13, figs. 1-7) as Reineckia (Reinecikeites) cf. R. stuebeli Steinmann. The age of Arkelloceras on the basis of its common association with Inoceramus lucifer Eichwald is early to early middle Bajocian. Its age on the basis of associated ammonites at Wide Bay is early middle Bajocian (Imlay, 1964, Prof. Paper 418-B, p. B18, B53). This age has now been accepted by Frebold (1967, Geol. Survey Canada Paper 67-12, p. 19, 20).
