West Coast North America from north of San Francisco (38 deg. 30 min. N. lat.) to Coronation Is., southeastern Alaska (56 deg. N. lat.). Not recorded from Chukchi Sea or Beaufort Sea. The genus Cythere occurs in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In the North Atlantic it ranges into subfrigid waters, while in the Pacific it has not been recorded north of the cold-temperate Aleutian Province, most probaly due to lack of sampling at higher latitudes; tolerates a wide range of salinity and water temperature. |
