Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1964 (11/30)
Report by: Ralph W. Imlay
Referred by: E. M. MacKevett , Jr.
Age: Sinemurian-Pliensbachian (early Sinemurian - early Pliensbachian)
Formation: McCarthy Formation
Comment:All five collections submitted contain fragments of ammonites belonging to the family Arietitidae which ranges from lower Sinemurian to lower Pliensbachian. The genus Arnioceras of early Sinemurian age occurs in collection 64AMk84 and probably also in 64AMk108. Undetermined smooth ammonites occur in collections DL-J-1 and 64AMK87. As Arnioceras occurs in the transitional beds between the lower and upper members of the McCarthy Formation, the base of the upper member cannot be older than Sinemurian. As yet fossils of Hettangian age have not been found in the McCarthy area.
