Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1981 (01/21)
Project: Chugach Rare II

This report concerns 32 samples that were submitted for analysis of foraminifers. This report is based on examination of provided thin sections. Twenty one samples contained foraminifers, eight samples were barren of foraminifers and slides were not provided for three samples.

General Comments: Obtaining age and environment from analysis of foraminifers in thin sections is very difficult. Most of the samples you sent contain little or no data and I have only commented (guessed) on age or environment for the few samples that contain more abundant foraminifer structures. Preservation of foraminifers is poor in all samples. The rocks from the Prince William Sound area are too indurated for normal processing for foraminifers. We have had occasional success in obtaining foraminifers, however, by putting samples similar to your through acid treatment. Therefore, I have asked Dave Jones to run three of your samples (80 AMh 002Z, 80 ANs 102C and 80 ANs 096A) through the rad lab. I will contact you later if the acid technique provides additional information. Your slides and samples are being returned to you through Dave Jones.
