Comment:This small pelecypod is circum-Arctic in distribution and ranges southward along the eastern Pacific coast as far south as San Francisco Bay, California. It is common in the upper part of the intertidal zone of bays, and is especially characteristic of brackish-water environments although it does range to depths of about 20 fathoms in offshore areas. It is usually found in silty substrates.

This species ranges from the Pleistocene to the Holocene both in the North Atlantic and northeastern Pacific regions.
