Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1974 (08/20)
The following samples were treated with acetic acid and the residues examined.
Sample of 2000-3000 grams are preferred. Sample of less than 500 grams are too small to establish the absence of conodonts.

Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1975 (01/28)
This is a final report on the collections for which a preliminary report was sent earlier (June 4, 1974). That report elicited no response from you but I now have the conodont data (totally negative) and the Merriam ms., so the following is as good as I can do.
The collections are listed in the same order as on your transmittal form and are grouped in accordance with the relationships that you suggest.
There is an anomaly that may or may not be significant. The form that I refer to as Tryplasma sp. A or cf. sp. A is sufficiently peculiar that I would expect it to be a good species with a restricted range. However, it is associated with Late Silurian corals in collections 9746-49-SD and with probable Middle Devonian corals in 9342. Everything else fits very well.
[Oliver broke the reported collections into the following groupings: RBB comment].
I. Similar Collections [USGS 9340-SD (73ACn1511) & 9341-SD (73ACn1541)]
Three unrelated collections [USGS 9342-SD (73ACn1591), 9343-SD (73ACn1801), and 9344-SD (73ACn1802)].
III. [Comment on 9345 to 9349 Sequence - 73ACn1871, 1901, 1912, 1921, and 1931 respectively] Your notes suggest these collections are in sequence from older to younger. If so, this adds weight to the conclusion that they are all Silurian or earliest Devonian because I would expect to have a distinct Devonian assemblage in rocks as young as Emsian. It may also be significant that no distinct Amphipora was found. Summary: 9349-SD, 9348-SD, 9347-SD, 9346-SD are Ludlow-Pridoli, 9345-SD is Llandovery.

Age: Middle Devonian (Middle Devonian, probably Givetian)
Formation:Wadleigh Limestone (Revised; Robert B. Blodgett, 02/09/2008 ) (original assignment: Karheen Formation)
Comment:Middle Devonian, probably Givetian. S. sp. A is known from probable Middle Devonian rocks in the Brooks Range and the collection 9356-SD (following). Alaiophyllum is presently known only from Givetian rocks; Fasciphyllum from Lower and Middle Devonian.
