Memorandum for Don J. Miller: (Through the Chief Geologist and the Chief Alaskan Geologist)
The lot of fossils number 18934 (orginal number 43AMr64) collection at altitude 3500 feet on east side of McCarthy Creek, 10500 feet N. 9 1/2 deg. E. of the junction of McCarthy Creek, and East Fork, Chitina Valley, Copper River region, Alaska, and assigned to the Chinitna limestone [SIC, note by R.B. Blodgett, the correct formation assignment is Chitistone Limestone] consists of the internal molds of gastropods and pelecypods that are not determinable with any degree of assurance. The fauna represents a facies I do not recall seeing before, and would not, in the present state of knowledge, be assignable. If the stratigraphy requires reference to the Triassic, it is better evidence than the fossils provide. There are present Cardita sp., two other pelecypods, a naticoid gastropod, and high-spired gastropod.
