This report covers 22 collections from four measured sections of Upper Paleozoic rocks; 13 of the collections are from the Atigun Gorge section in the Philip Smith Mtns. quadrangle. All the collections from the Siksikpuk and Sadlerochit Formations contain elements of the Lower Permian low-diversity fossil assemblage that has been reported previously from these rocks in the central Brooks Range (see report to Gil Mull, on shipment A-83-43a, dated 2/14/84). The assemblage from Atigun Gorge differs from that in the type area of the Siksikpuk, as indicated last year; the large Martinia is characteristic of the eastern area (including Atigun) and the much sparser fauna with the small Martinia is found in the type area. The Lower Permian rocks in the Philip Smith Mtns. quad. were mapped by Brosge and others as undifferentiated Sadlerochit Group and the sequence in the Atigun Gorge area was considered an equivalent of the Joe Creek Member.

Perhaps the most intriguing collection in this shipment is 84AKA 15-2, from the Ekokpuk Creek area. This collection consists of an external mold of a compressed cephalopod of very late Mississippian age and, possibly, represents the very top of the Kuna Formation in that place, rather than the basal Siksikpuk.
