Samples that have been assigned USGS numbers ending in PC, for this report, contain brachiopods that being retained in the P&S collections for future reference. The samples submitted were broken and prepared, revealing many more specimens than showed on the surfaces. All with determinable specimens seem to be Permian in age. A rather surprising result is their resemblance to the Permian fauna described by Cooper (1957) from Oregon. The strongest clue to this was sample 23883; the collection from 23875 was reviewed in this light, confirming the impression. Cooper dated the Oregon fauna as early Word, in terms of the Texas section. Now the earliest Word has been separated as a distinct formation and asigned to the Leonard Series. I would venture the opinion that the largest brachiopod samples, occurring in dark argillaceous limestone (23875, 23880, 23883) are all of this age (latest Leonard, possibly including early Word, as explained below). The others are Permian, but can't be dated much more precisely than that. The collection from 23878 is in a lighter colored coarser limestone, but the list is typically Permian with possible links to the East Greenland fauna that is now considered Guadalupe in age, not extreme latest Permian as shown on the Permian Correlation Chart (Dunbar et al., 1960, G.S.A. Bull. 71).
