Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1976 (04/19)
Report on material submitted for identification by Joseph M. Hoare from the Permian of Southwestern Alaska.
Report by: Erle G. Kauffman
Referred by: Joseph M. Hoare
Age: Permian
Comment:All of the Atomodesma bearing beds are very probably Permian in age. Collections GB6-1515 and GB6-2333 have taxa which are closely related to Late Permian forms of Russia and may be this age; I would suggest corroborative evidence from brachiopods and corals if possible though. Most of the other collections are divisible into two types, those bearing large rugate Atomodesma (Intomodesma?) sp. aff. A. (I.?) sp. 1 of Kauffman and Runnegar from the Permian (as yet undifferentiated) of Nevada, and those bearing a thin-shelled, small, flat taxon, probably an A. (Aphanaia); A. (A. aff. erectum Kauffman and Runnegar does occur in GC7-1082 with (Intomodesma). These may represent two biostratigraphic zones but this needs to be field checked. In any case, affinities to the Nevada Permian material is obvious in these collections, but this does not allow anything more than an undifferentiated Permian age to be cited.
