| Comment: | Collections 54AGz56W and 55C, D, I, M, N, and P all contain many species identifical with those that we found near the top of the siltstone member of the Matanuska formation on Squaw Creek in the Talkeetna Mountains. These fossils are of Campanian or possibly Maestrichtian age as explained in earlier memoranda. It would appear, therefore, that most of the Matanuska formation is missing in the Talkeetna A-2 quadrangle and that the Matanuska formation overlaps northward in a manner similar to that of the Naknek formation. [Grantz in his transmittal sheet comments: "Collections 54AGz55C, D, I, M, N, & P are arranged in alphabetical order in measured section above the Nelchina limestone with 55C toward the top of the section and 55P toward the base of the section." He also states: "Collections 54AGz55 and 54AGz56 are from the same measured section with the the 54AGz55 sequence from the upper portion of the section and the 54AGz56 sequence from the lower portion of the section."] |
