Comment: | These collections principally represent the upper Norian, based on the presence of Monotis ochotica and Heterastridium (the spherical objects sometimes referred to as Triassic goof-balls). However, the finely ribbed Monotis of the M. scutiformis group, and at 75APa73A the associated Halobia shell fragments, indicate that some middle Norian is included at both the generalized localities. The Monotis in these collections are of the Arctic-western Pacific kind and would be at home in northern Alaska. Different species of Monotis characterize the eastern rim of the Pacific south of the Denali fault zone. Heterastridium is hitherto unknown associated with these Arctic species of Monotis in North America, but it does occur wit them in New Zealand. |
