My conclusions regarding two of your 1971 collections from the Petersburg A-3 quad are as follows. [Comment by R.B. Blodgett - this "E&R" is actually in the form of letter] Representative specimens from these collections have been added to the Triassic reference collections of the P&S Branch in Menlo Park. |

Comment: | Based on the occurrence of Halobia of the H. ornatissima-H. cordillierana kind, this collection is of late Karnian to mid middle Norian age. Also present are: Atractites -- a coleoid or "belemnite" bone fragments, and a minute ammonite or low-spired gastropod -- indeterminate in either case. This colection is older than any known North American occurrence of Heterastridium which is characteristic of the upper Norian. |
