Brief statement of problem and remarks (from collector):
Collections 61ABa1463 and 61ABa1493 are from a previously unmapped region where stratigraphic control is needed.

Collection 61ABa1762 is from a limestone which seems be interbedded with Woodchopper volcanics. The locality may be the same as Mertie's 38AMt106, which Kirk assigned to the Upper Devonian (Kirk's letter enclosed). If the coral from 61ABa1762 substantiates Kirk's age assignment for these rocks then:

a) the published age of the Woodchopper volcanics must be revised
b) these rocks may be the only marine strata of Late Devonian age in this part of Alaska.

Locality 61ATe21 is geographically close to 28AMt260 where a "high Middle Devonian" fauna was collected (USGS Bull. 816, p. 82). Note that Kirk, in a letter to Reeside (enclosed), states that the faunas previously considered "high Middle Devonian" are probably Late Devonian. Is it possible to tell whether the coral at 61ATe is Middle or Late Devonian?
