Brief statement of problem and remarks (from collector):
This locality is near several Silurian fossil localites described by Buddington (USGS Bull. 800, p. 92-93) on and near Shrubby Island in the Kashevarof Group in central southeastern Alaska (localities 540, 545, 546, 985).

Present collection was made as part of new (1978) regional mapping project in Petersburg Quadrangle. This is the first systematic geologic investigation of the area and, if geologic conditions warrant, it will include detailed biostratigraphic studies of the Paleozoic rocks.
