Stratigraphic range: Upper? Devonian
Kinds of fossils: Corals
Quadrangle or area: Charley River, East-Central Alaska
Shipment No.: A-80-6, 7
Referred by: Churkin, Michael, Jr.
Report prepared by: Oliver, William A., Jr.
Date: 08/11/1980

The second (or third) colony mentioned in my report of 6/16/80 (colln. 1292) and the simple colonial coral mentioned in my letter of 6/24/80 are certainly conspecific. Both are small fragments and difficult to orientate for sections but seem to be asteroid specimens of Haplothecia. As far as I know, this form has not previously been reported from North America. Elsewhere it is most commonly Late Devonian (Frasnian) but is known from Givetian rocks in Western Europe (as is Phillipsastraea). Collection 1292 is probably Frasnian as reported earlier, and it seems likely that 1371 is the same age.

Most of the material will be discarded but the sectioned corals and sections will be added to our reference collection.
