Dear Ms. Allison,

I have processed the limestone samples you recently sent me from locality A-1237, and they have a relatively diverse silicified gastropod fauna. A preliminary list of the snails present include: (see faunal list)

The gastropods in themselves are not diagnostic of a specific age, but they would be consistent with a Middle Devonian assignment. I have sorted and hardened the specimens and will leave them with Bob Blodgett in case he comes up with any more specimens.

Sincerely,

David M. Rohr

Dear Dr. Allison:

Here are the faunal lists of the brachiopod and associated biotic elements present in UA Mus. locs. A-1216, A-1217, A-1227, & A-1237. Conodont identifications by Gilbert Klapper have not yet been received.

Sincerely yours,

Age: Eifelian (Eifelian (approx. equivalent to the Couvinian))
Formation:Cheeneetnuk Limestone (Revised; Robert B. Blodgett, 12/12/2007 ; formation named subsequent to this report)
Comment:Age: probably late Couvinian (late early Middle Devonian). The overall aspect of the fauna indicates a Middle Devonian age. However, the presence of Variatypa cf. arctica, indicates a late Couvinian age, as it is a widespread faunal element in western North American strata of that age, being reported from the Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Michigan and the Hudson Bay region.
