Comment: | This collection contains a limited brachiopod assemblage consisting of molds and casts of : Chonetinella sp., Anidanthus sp., "Pseudomartinia" aff. "P." greenladica (Dunbar) and Attenuatella sp. There are also fragments of indeterminate pelecypods and another productoid genus. The assemblage is probably facies controlled, and is similar to that found elsewhere in northern Alaska in the Siksikpuk Formation. The chonetid and martinioid resemble species reported from the Siksikpuk. Anidanthus is a genus closely related to Megousia but where the two have been found in sequence, Anidanthus is commonly the older. Although the possibility of a mid-Permian age cannot be ruled out, I favor an Early Permian age for this collection and suggest correlation with the Siksikpuk. |
