Summary

These three collections are probably all of Permian age, most likely Early Permian. There is a suggestion that the limestone of 60AHr44 is slightly younger than the grit of 60AHr46. The third collection contains nothing diagnostic, but comparable bryozoan material occurs in rocks assigned to the Permian in southeast Alaska.

Collection 60AHr46 contains the fusuline Schwagerina? in addition to bryozoans of early Permian aspect. Collection 60AHr44 contains Anidanthus sp., Liosotella? and other brachiopods commonly encountered in Permian assemblages elsewhere in Alaska. This collection is probably younger than the Schwagerina-bearing assemblage but is not late Permian in the sense of the Arctic Permian of northern Alaska and the Canadian Arctic Islands. Wannerophyllum, a verbeekiellid coral, according to Helen Duncan has been described from middle and upper Permian of Timor, the Artinskian of Russia and the “middle Permian” of West Australia.
