Description: |
Howard Pass C-3. Lat. 68o 38'10" N., Lat. 157o 31'40" W. Crinoidal lime pack/grainstone (probable gravity flow deposit) about 14.5 m below top of 42-m-thick section. Thin section is crinoidal pack/grainstone with lesser bryozoans, siliceous sponge spicules, ostracodes, gastropods, brachiopod fragments, echinoderm spines, and phosphatic bioclasts; minor noncalcareous mud clasts, glauconite, and dolomite. Sample collected from carbonate turbidites (and thus may contain reworked faunas). (description from Dover et al., 2004, p. 33 (Table 1)); [Howard Pass C-3. 68°38'10" W, 157°31'40". Crinoidal lime grainstone/packstone. Probable gravity flow deposit. Sample collected from carbonate turbidites(may contain reworked faunas?). 92AD20-4.5 through 92AD22A from 66.5+m thick measured section in sequence of "Ipnavik facies" of Lisburne Group overlain (unconformably?) by Cretaceous sandstone. The section may be cut by faults, but if is not repeated, 92AD20-4.5 should be the youngest, and 92AD22A should be the oldest. ....92AD20-4.5 and -14.5 collected above change in attitude (fault?) 92AD20-4.5,-14.5 and 92AD220-23 collected from -700-660 m elevation on west side of NW-trending ridge, ~2 miles due east of Cutaway Creek and ~2.5 miles due south of headwaters of Lost Temper Creek, western Brooks Range; SW1/4NE1/4 sec. 28, T. 9 S., R. 24 W. (description from Harris E&R report dated March 17, 1995)] |

Analysis of all samples is given in the accompanying 16-page table. The range of biostratigraphically important samples is shown on the accompanying diagram. The heavy-mineral concentrates were analyzed by Nancy Stamm; the residues have been returned to Julie Dumoulin. Please note a few (~4 samples have heavy-mineral concentrates that include chalcopyrite and bornite). |

Comment: | Age: No older than S. anchoralis-D. latus Zone (middle Osagean or younger) with redeposited Famennian (late Late Devonian) and middle-late Kinderhookian conodonts. This is typical of Rim Butte unit (Ipnavik facies) of the Lisburne Group. Biofacies: Lag concentrate or turbidite. Postmortem transport from or within the bispathodid biofacies. CAI 1.5 7.0 kg rock processed (280 g +20 mesh and 109 g 20-200 mesh insoluble residue). Heavy-mineral concentrate: abundant unpicked conodont fragments, lesser phosphatized bioclasts and composite grains and iron oxides. (description from Harris E&R dated March 17, 1995)] |
