Description: |
Howard Pass B-5. Lat. 68o 29.6' N., Long. 158o 35.1' W. Probably turbidite; 10-cm-thick, paralle; and cross-laminated, light- to medium-gray-weathering (locally yellow-tan), dark-gray limestone intercalated with black mudstone and chert. Thin section is laminated spiculite that contains roughly equal amounts of calcareous and siliceous spicules. Collected approx. 1.5 m above base of outcrop and 15 m below mafic sill. Heavy-mineral concentrate: chiefly fused clusters of spines and (or) spicules with druses of phosphate. (description from Dover et al., 2004, p. 45 (Table 1)); [Howard Pass B-4. 68°29.57', 158°35.17'. Probable turbidite; 10 cm-thick, parallel and cross laminated, dark-gray, light to medium gray-weathering (locally yellow-tan) limestone intercalated with black mudstone and chert. Collected as "Ipnavik facies" of Lisburne Group, ~1.5 m above base of outcrop and 15 m below mafic sill. Collected ~4000 ft. (~ 1250 m) elevation on north side of hill 1301 m, ~1.5 miles due east of Wager Creek and ~0.5 mile west of headwaters of Twister Creek, NE1/4 sec. 13, T. 11 S., R. 29 W. Analysis of all samples is given in the accompanying 16-page table. The range of biostratigraphically important samples is shown on the accompanying diagram. The heavy-mineral concentrates were analyzed by Nancy Stamm; the residues have been returned to Julie Dumoulin. Please note a few (~4 samples have heavy-mineral concentrates that include chalcopyrite and bornite). |
