Comment: | The fossils from cores in the South Barrow test well No. 12 are mostly of early Sinemurian and Hettangian ages (earliest Jurassic). Ammonites of early Sinemurian age occur at depths of 1987.4 to 2068 ft. The Hettangian is probably represented by Psiloceras (Franziceras?) at 2181.5 feet. The pelecypod Otapiria tailleuri Imlay is associated with the early Sinemurian ammonite Arnioceras at 2056 feet and ranges downward to 2078.5 feet. It is also associated with an ammonite, Charmasseiceras? of early Sinemurian age at depths of 2061.5 and 2068 feet. A monotid pelecypod occurs at 2083.7 feet which is about 97 feet above the probable Hettangian ammonite. That monitid and the ammonite at the depth of 2170.5 feet should be examined by Norm Silberling. I suggest that the sawed splits in Menlo Park be examined for additional ammonites at depths of 2061.5, 2068, 2170.5 and 2181.5. |
