Comment: | Contains specimens of only one ostracode species, Elofsonia? sp. A. The genus Elofsonia ranges from Pleistocene-Holocene and was previously known only from northwestern Europe, with the exception of an occurrence of the same species in Holocene sample 70Ahp83B from the Cape Espenberg region (see A-75-12). The genus occurs in brackish to nearshore marine environments and tolerates a wide range of salinity and water temperature. However, the species identified here seems to have a different hinge structure than described for the type species and is questionably referred to the genus until European eomparative material is available. |
