Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1984 (02/29)
This report covers 11 collections from southwest Alaska, mostly from the Goodnews Bay quadrangle. Four of these collections, from the Goodnews D-1 quad., come from a locality which the U.S.G.S. has previously collected good Permian megafossils. One collection from the Goodnews D-5 quad. (81-ABB-116) is also probably Permian, as is one from the Lime Hills quad. (81-ABB-20). Two collections are possibly Triassic (81-ABB-527 and 82ABB-167). One collection has a carbonate clast in conglomerate, probably Cretaceous; and the other two collections are indeterminate. Collections returned. [Note by Blodgett, three collections reported herein,82-ABB110A, 82ABB-71, and 81-ABB-112A, have no geographic information listed with them]
Report by: J. Thomas Dutro , Jr.
Referred by: Robert B. Blodgett , Wesley K. Wallace
Age: Late Triassic (probably Late Triassic)
Comment:This collection contains indeterminate echinoderm debris, sheetlike fragments of possible hydrozoans, and two small shell that are probably monotid pelecypods. The age is probably Late Triassic.

1 Echinoderms indeterminate echinoderm debris
2 Hydrozoans sheetlike fragments of possible hydrozoans
3 Bivalves two small shells that are probably monotid pelecypods

Title: Letter from Norman J. Silberling to Wesley K. Wallace ,  1984 (07/31)

Dear Wesley,

This letter is concerned with eight samples from Alaska described in your letter of April 5. Most of these are Triassic, one is probably Lower Jurassic, and two are somewhere between "probably Paleozoic" and "indeterminate."

.......

Give my regards to Mike.

Report by: Norman J. Silberling
Referred by: Wesley K. Wallace
Age: Late Paleozoic (suggestive of the Late Paleozoic)
Comment:Crinoid columnals of relatively large diameter and poorly preserved, silicified shell fragments. This collection is suggestive of the upper Paleozoic rather than the Triassic. I'll have the best preserved silificied block etched in acid, and if anything turns up, I'll let you know.

The "Tikchik terrane" falls out of the available mapping as an enclave, probably fault bounded, of older rocks within the "Togiak Terrane," but the stratigraphic and structural relations of the rocks that have yielded Triassic megafossils is essentially unknown. This is an area badly in need of further work.

1 Crinoids crinoid columnals of relatively large diameter
