Description: Lower Naknek formation; massive siltstone about 200-300 feet above contact with Chisik Member; along shore of Cook Inlet between Ursus Cove and Iliamna Bay; 0.6 mile N. 42o E. of south tip of Ursus Head. Coords. 6.0-4.03; C2 quad; 59o 33'28" N., 153o 34'50" W. [Note by R.B. Blodgett, the 8 on 28" Lat. is indistinct, may also be 23"]. Detterman and Reed (1980, p. Comment:All the collections submitted contain fragments of phragmocones and guards of belemnites. One guard from locality 61-ADt-44 probably belongs to Pachyteuthis. In addition locality 61-ADt-45 contains Phylloceras sp. Both localities 61-ADt-45 and 61AHe-55 contain Buchia concentrica (Sowerby). This species elsewher in the Cook Inlet area occurs at and near the base of the Naknek. From your previous studies you are aware of its range in the Boreal region and its age significance.
