| Comment: | The ammonite from the mud spring in the Copper River lowland is an immature specimen of Subprionocyclus of late Turonian age. In whorl shape, ribbing, and tuberculation, it greatly resembles the immature specimen of S. normalis (Anderson) figured by Matsumoto (1959, Upper Cretaceous Ammonites of California, Part II, pl. 31, figs. 3, 4). Also, its suture line is nearly identical with that of S. normalis (Anderson) as figured by Matsumoto on p. 120. With the comparative material that Dave Jones has on hand, he may be able to decide on the specific identity of the Alaskan specimen. Will you please tell Dave that I tried my best to identify the specimen with some Jurassic genus after he disowned it. |
