The following is a report on Ordovician and Silurian graptolites from southwestern Alaska collected by yourself and Tom Smith.

The Early Ordovician graptolites in your collections are characteristic of the Pacific faunal province that developed in the western U.S., Australasia, China, and parts of the USSR during Early Ordovician. They are similar to the faunas Mike Churkin found in the Terra Cotta Mountains (McGrath quad.). The Ordovician zones I have used essentially those established in New Zealand by Cooper (1979, New Zealand Geol. Survey Paleont. Bull. 47) and used by me for the Terra Cotta succession (see enclosure).

If you have any questions, please let me know. I would like to keep the graptolites here in Menlo Park unless you want them back.

Sincerely yours,

Claire Carter
