Comment: | Fifteen thin sections were cut from the rock samples. The specimens were studied to determine if the samples were late Paleozoic in age. No microfossils suggestive of Paleozoic age were found. The limestones are: molluscan-brachiopod-echinoderm-peloid-arenaceous packstone. The quartz fraction is composed of rounded grain, 0.1 mm to 1.0 mm in size. The matrix is neomorphic calcite with crystals from 25 to 59 microns in size. Calcite fragments and clasts are oolites, peloids, pelecypods, belemnite rostrums, pectinoids (possibly Halobia), and brachiopods. Absent are bryozoan bioclasts which are abundant in Paleozoic carbonates. Also absent are foraminifera. The texture of the rock and the fossil bioclasts have a Mesozoic appearance. This is supported by the possible Halobia and belemnite rostrum fragments. |
