Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1973 (11/02)
Sorry to have another series of Alaska samples so barren of conodonts.
Sample No. 73ACn22 was not received.
Report by: John W. Huddle
Referred by: Michael Churkin , Jr.
Age: Cambrian-Early Silurian (Upper Cambrian - Earliest Silurian?)
Formation: Descon Formation (May be Descon Formation)
Comment:Only one specimen of Cordylodus sp. was recovered from approximately 4 kilograms of limestone. If only one conodont is found in a sample, I wonder if it is the result of laboratory contamination. In this case I do not think it is. We have not processed any sample with Cordylodus for several months, so screen, acid tub, or picking tray contamination is improbable. Cordylodus is typically an Ordovician genus but it does occur in the uppermost Cambrian, and perhaps continues into the lowermost Silurian.
