Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1972 (09/01)
This report is based on two samples from the Wrangell airport, approximately three-fourths mile and mile and a half northeast of an earlier collection from the Peterson Place in Wrangell (EG-65-9M, pt. 2 [11-6-65].
Report by: Warren O. Addicott
Referred by: R. W. Lemke
Age: Holocene
Comment:Comments: All the species identified in these collections are still living and their geographic ranges indicate the latitude of Wrangell, Alaska, as would be expected by their near-modern radiocarbon age (9700 plus-or-minus 350 yrs) indicated in the transmittal forms.

The few mollusk genera reported from your field loc. 136 by F.S. MacNeil probably are identical to the species identified by the L65 sample but I have not been able to locate the older collection to make a direct comparison.

The depth ranges of species in the larger assemblage (M5757) suggests a shallow inner sublittoral environment of perhaps 5 to 20 fathoms. The abundance of what appear to Mytilus fragments in the other collection (5756) suggest a different environment, probably shallower and in close proximity to a substantial area of rocky substrate. The other bivalves in this assemblage are commonly found in low intertidal and shallow subtidal depths.
