Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1980 (11/12)
This report is based on two collections from section 34, T. 57 S., R. 71 E.. (56 deg. 52 min. 40 sec. lat.; 134 deg. 12 min. 05 sec. long.) Port Alexander D-1 quadrangle on a island in Saginaw Bay. Both have been assigned collection numbers and are being retained.
An inventory of the Museum collections is in progress. Alaska has just been inventoried and collection 2022 cannot be located. Others, such as 2018-2021 made by Buddington, are present. Thus, it is impossible to comment on Kirk's identifications, but Hercynella is a good Devonian fossil.

Referred by: David A. Brew
Age: Early Devonian (Early Devonian (possibly middle Early Devonian))
Comment:The rock contains numerous specimens of Nowakia, a tentaculitid. Because of the seeming absence of transverse ornament on the concentric ridges, we suggest that this is N. acuaria (Richter) or a closely allied undescribed species.
In Czechoslovakia this species is rare in the early Early Devonian (Lochkovian), but abundant in the upper of the middle Early Devonian (Pragian) and somewhat less common in the upper part of that stage. It does not occur in the overlying Zlichovian (late Early Devonian).
There are a very few examples of a poorly preserved smooth tentaculitid which may be Styliolina.
The collection also contains an indeterminate gastropod and what might be a monograptid graptolite. Our best guess is that the age is Early Devonian and, possibly, middle Early Devonian.
