Comment: | Age: Early Pleistocene to Kotzebuan. NEPTUNEA LYRATA LEFFINGWELLI occurs in Beringian to Kotzebuan Gubik deposits; NATICA JANTHOSTOMA has a range in Alaska from early Pleistocene to Pelukian, although it is still living in the northwestern Pacific and is known in Pliocene strata outside of Alaska. NEPTUNEA HEROS HEROS ranges from Kotzebuan to Holocene. Environment: NEPTUNEA HEROS HEROS lives today from the Beaufort Sea to Unimak Island, and CYCLOCARDIA CREBRICOSTATA is also a common species along the western Alaska coastline, both species occurring commly in very shallow water. NATICA JANTHOSTOMA lives in the nothwestern Pacific Ocean from Hokkaido, northern Japan, to Kamchatka; it lives in shallow water, but its exact bathymetric preference is unknown. |
