Title: Report on Referred Fossils ,  1978 (12/20)
This report deals with eight collections of megafossils from the Bear Lake Formation on the Alaska Peninsula, southwestern Alaska. Fossils consist of molds and casts only. Collections made by R. L. Detterman unless stated.
Report by: Louie Marincovich , Jr.
Referred by: Robert L. Detterman
Age: Miocene
Formation: Bear Lake Formation
Comment:The earliest verified occurrence of MYA TRUNCATA in Alaska is in the Yakataga Formation at Cape Yakataga, in strata of late middle Miocene or early late Miocene age. This species is also common in younger strata and in modern Alaskan seas; it lives in depths of 0-50 meters in modern seas, burrowed into sandy substrate. The articulated CLINOCARDIUM is slim evidence for little post-mortem transport of the mollusks shells.
